The Mayor’s Fitness Council Student Ambassador Program celebrated student ambassadors, student mentors and campus mentors with a fun and memorable End of Year Celebration Parade and private Zoom with Mayor Nirenberg.

The students in the current cohort are from all across San Antonio, live and go to school in nearly every city council district and some spread out further into cities that reside within the Bexar County boundary lines. These fine student leaders have worked diligently over the last year and a half to serve their school campuses and communities by implementing healthy strategies and service projects that will live on past their term of service to influence healthy behaviors in their peers and amplify a culture of wellness and healthy living at their school campuses, districts and neighborhoods.

In fact the student ambassadors are doing such great work that The Aspen Institute has recently selected the Mayor’s Fitness Council Student Ambassador Program as one of 20 Project Play Champions from across the nation launching the Student Ambassador Program onto a national platform and spotlight. We are so proud of our healthy youth leaders from right here in San Antonio!

Through the generous backing of the Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio, the Mayor’s Fitness Council Student Ambassador Program has awarded nearly $300,000 to student ambassador teams for their well researched service projects that are meeting real health, physical fitness, better nutrition and mental wellness needs across San Antonio and Bexar County over the last eight years. In addition the Mayor’s Fitness Council has partnered with CHEF – Culinary Health Education for Families to work with all student ambassador elementary school campuses to bring healthy nutrition curriculum and education to elementary campuses across Bexar County. The MFC/CHEF Student Ambassadors were delivered celebration surprises to their homes along with certificates of completion from Mayor Nirenberg.

The mission of the Mayor’s Fitness Council Student Ambassador Program is to involve youth in improving the health of San Antonio. Student Ambassadors represent the Mayor’s Fitness Council by promoting and encouraging healthy living at their campus and in their communities. Each Student Ambassador is required to implement a health related service project in their school or community.
